Product Description: Kindel Furniture - 83-083 - Seymour Armchair - These chairs have been adapted from the original settee made circa 1800 in Boston by Thomas Seymour. The originals are on display in the Montmorenci Stair Hall at the Winterthur Museum. Kindel has applied upholstery to the front of the chair back for added comfort and has remained faithful to the overall design. The top rail features complex construction with contrasting Satinwood veneer on the solid Mahogany crest rail. This treatment is also applied to the flaring legs and seat rails. Extensive hand-carved reeding, rosettes, and leaf carving adorn this chair. The back shows beautifully as the fabric reflects through the pierced splat. Spring seat construction.

The former home of Henry Francis du Pont houses a collection of nearly 90,000 objects made or used in America between about 1640 and 1860. The collection is displayed in the magnificent 175-room house, much as it was when the du Pont family lived there, as well as in permanent and changing exhibition galleries. Graduate programs and a preeminent research library make Winterthur an important center for the study of American art and culture.In 1983 Kindel was awarded a license to reproduce important examples of furniture from du Pont's collection. Kindel sought to recreate the best of kind examples due to their complexity, authenticity and craftsmanship. Through the demands of scholars and conservators at Winterthur, Kindel developed the highest standards of execution in the furniture industry. Standards of excellence gained through our experience with Winterthur set the course for how we build furniture today.
